Home of the Lions
Since being taken under FAS’ wing in 2000, the women’s football scene in Singapore has gradually progressed after a previous lull period. The Women’s National Team, which represents Singapore in the international football scene, has not only become a point of local pride but also a driver to raise interest and awareness of women’s football. In recent years, the Lionesses have played international matches on a consistent basis, including friendlies and qualifiers for major tournaments, as well as the AFF Women’s Championships.
More age-group teams, from Under-14 through to Under-19, have also been formed to ensure talented players have a pathway towards representing the senior side, with the likes of Putri Nur Syaliza and Danelle Tan emerging as shining prospects.
With an increasing amount of work being put in at grassroots level to increase the number of playing opportunities as well as the expansion of the domestic leagues, the Lionesses are building towards a brighter future.
