SINGAPORE, 24 January 2025 – Tennis fans, mark your calendars! The highly anticipated Singapore Tennis Open (STO) 2025, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 tournament, is set to deliver an unforgettable week of tennis. There will be free entry to the STO 2025 qualifying rounds on 25 and 26 January, where fans can cheer on prominent players such as Zhu Lin of China, and Filipino Alexandra Eala. Both players are hoping for winning returns to Singapore - Zhu Lin took part in the 2015 WTA Rising Stars Invitational, while Eala participated in the WTA Future Stars event in 2016 and 2017.
The Kallang Tennis Hub (KTH) will serve up thrilling main draw matches from 27 January to 2 February 2025 featuring Anna Kalinskaya, Emma Raducanu, Elise Mertens, and top WTA stars battling for the coveted title.
Adding to the action is the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC) which will debut at the KTH, alongside STO 2025. This tennis invitational promises an exciting showcase of regional talent over four days, on 28 January and from 30 January to 1 February. Thirty-two national players from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia will compete across five events: Ladies’ Singles & Doubles, Men’s Singles & Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Built for the Communities
In celebration of the sport, there will be specially curated tennis-themed activities at the STO 2025 Fan Village. These activities are designed to promote tennis to the wider community.
The Fan Village, located at the KTH Event Plaza, is open to all, daily. It will host meet-and-greet sessions where the community can get up close to WTA stars and regional tennis legends, Tamarine Tanasugarn and Yayuk Basuki who have been appointed as STO Community Ambassadors. Tanasugarn, widely regarded as Thailand’s best ever tennis player, achieved a career high doubles ranking of No. 15 in 2002, while Indonesian icon Basuki achieved a career high doubles ranking of No. 9 in 1998. Both trailblazers will be sharing about their experiences as Southeast Asian players competing on the WTA Tour, and, as role models, inspiring aspiring players to chase their dreams of playing on the world’s grandest stage.
Not to be missed are the fun tennis-themed challenges that measure the speed of your reflexes, test your tennis strokes and assess the accuracy of your shots. Those who are game to work up a sweat can try their hand at Cardio Tennis, a free fitness class with a tennis twist, held at the KTH outdoor courts.
Inspiring the Next Generation
To encourage aspiring youths and grow their interest in the sport, the Singapore Tennis Association, ActiveSG Tennis Academy and organisers of the Junior Team Tennis League will be conducting tennis clinics led by local coaches. These clinics offer participants the opportunity to pick up techniques of the sport as well as tips on mastering the game from STO Community Ambassadors Tanasugarn and Basuki.
Just as the international and regional players have a competition of their own, our youths will have their time on court through the STO Red Ball Event Tournament 2025. This tournament replicates the experience of a tennis tournament for our youths, including those who are new to tennis, and is meant to help them develop their skills and confidence on court.
Professional development sessions, designed to facilitate the exchange of insights and best practices, are in place to offer local and international coaches opportunities for collaboration and community building that can extend beyond the inaugural edition of the STO.
To foster an appreciation of the work that goes on behind the scenes when hosting international sport events like the STO, there will be learning journeys for more than 600 local and international school students. These guided tours offer an insight to venue logistics, event operations and sports management as the students will be given exclusive viewings of the back-of-house areas at KTH. The tour will also include stops at the Singapore Sports Museum and WTA Finals commemorative art sculpture. Capping off the learning journey is a centre court seat for each student to catch smashing on court action at the STO.
